Mission
The First Baptist Church
of Hawkinsville is a
faith community seeking
to help all persons know
God through Jesus
Christ, enabling them to
become conformed to the
image of Christ,
empowering them to reach
the world with the
Gospel, and providing
them with opportunities
to minister tangibly in
the name of Christ.
The five purposes of
First Baptist Church
are:
1.To honor God through
worship.
2.To share Christ
through evangelism.
3.To provide Christian
fellowship.
4.To train and equip our
church family.
5.To
extend God’s love
through ministry.
Our Goal
The
First Baptist Church of
Hawkinsville is located
at the corner of Broad
Street and McCormick
Avenue near the center
of town. This
historic church has
served Hawkinsville and
Central Georgia as a
lighthouse of hope and
love for over 178 years.
There are many features
that make First Baptist
Church of Hawkinsville
both unique and
Christ-centered.
One feature is WORSHIP.
We try to follow the
scripture, which says,
“Worship the Lord in the
beauty of holiness”
(Psalm 29:2 KJV).
Our worship services are
reverent, but not
distant; often
traditional, not
stilted; sometimes
contemporary, but in
good taste, and always
focused on proclaiming
the Word of God, both in
sermon and song.
We believe that worship
is not a performance for
an earthly audience, but
participatory
involvement as we
present our sacrifice of
praise to God. We
hope to be united as we
lift up our praise and
prayers to God, and
listen for God’s message
for us. (Sunday
morning worship is
mostly traditional.
Sunday evening worship
is mostly contemporary.)
Another feature of FBC
is SERVANTHOOD. A
few years ago we began
to renovate our
facilities through
sacrificial giving and
both volunteer and
professional labor.
Because of this
sacrifice, we are
attempting to use our
buildings to the glory
of God. Our state
of the art Children’s
Weekday Ministry is
always in high demand.
Our brotherhood conducts
various hands-on
missions projects
throughout the year.
Our women’s ministries
have included
conferences, mission
groups, and fund-raising
events. We have a
food pantry and contact
with other churches and
organizations in the
community in a
coordinated effort to
address poverty issues.
Some of the ministries
we hope to reinstate are
after-school tutoring
programs, a youth
mentoring program, and
participation in our
local Big Brother
activities.
A
third area of church
life is DISCIPLESHIP.
First Baptist Church
offers many
opportunities for
spiritual development,
as we learn to become
more faithful
Christ-followers.
Our Sunday School Bible
Study program is for
every age, from infancy
through senior adults.
A recent Wednesday night
program called WOW
(“Worship on
Wednesdays”) offers an
unbelievable variety of
hands-on Bible learning
experiences, including
the arts, media,
missions, Bible verse
memorization,
discussions, and even a
delicious supper.
Yet another facet of
church life is
FELLOWHSIP. We
believe this church
family is truly a
spiritual “family” in
every sense of the word.
We enjoy being together,
praying for each other,
caring for each other in
times of need, and
having fun with each
other at recreation
events, church socials,
concerts, parties, and
our weekly Wednesday
night Fellowship Supper
(WOW).
We
believe First Baptist
Church is a place you
would want to “plug
into.” Look
through the pages of
this website. Look
at the many
opportunities for
worship and service, and
some of our plans for
the future of our
congregation in service
to our Lord to our
community. If
these sound exciting,
challenging, rewarding,
and fulfilling to you,
then First Baptist could
very well be your church
home. We would to
talk with you, answer
your questions, and
welcome you for a visit.
